CAR T-Cells Therapy Market – Overview

CAR T-cell therapy is cell-based gene therapy for the treatment of cancer in which a specific type of immune system cell (T-cells) are made changes in the laboratory so that it will attack Cancer cells and destroy them. This is done by taking blood from the patient and a gene for the special receptor (Chimeric antigen Receptor CAR) which binds to a specific protein added in patient’s T cells. This whole process is done in the laboratory and by infusion, it is given to the body of the patient. Two IV lines are required in this one to remove blood from the patient body and to separate white blood cells and after that blood is put back into the body by another IV line. After separation, WBC is sent to laboratories to make the required changes, and T-cells are grown and multiplied in the lab for several weeks. Before giving the infusion, chemotherapy is given so that other immune cells get lower in number and CAR T-cells will work best to attack the cancerous cells. CAR T-cell therapies currently approved include Tisagenlecleucel, also known as tisa-cel, Axicabtagene ciloleucel, also known as axi-cel (Yescarta), Brexucabtagene autoleucel, also known as brexu-cel (Tecartus).
